Threshers Top Rays on Monday

The Clearwater Threshers offense was stymied on Sunday as the Vero Beach Devil Rays held them to just one hit in the game, but the Threshers bats came alive on Monday night getting seven runs on ten hits in a winning effort. Threshers’ starter Edgar Garcia threw seven solid frames giving up just two runs on five hits with eight strikeouts and just one walk whil Brian Schlitter threw the final two innings giving up a run on three hits with three Ks and two walks.

The offense struck the Rays pitching early tonight picking up three runs in the first inning. Quintin Berry walked to start things followed by singles from Carlos Leon and Adrian Cardenas. Gus MIlner picked up the first RBI of the game on a sac fly drving in Berry from third. With Clay Harris batting, Carlos Leon stole third base and Adrian Cardenas stole second, then both scored on a two-RBI single from Harris to give the Threshers a 3-0 advantage before the inning was over.

The team picked up a fourth run in the third inning when Gus Milner picked up a leadoff walk, then stole second and later scored on a Matt Spencer RBI single.

The Devil Rays picked up two in the fourth to cut the Threshers lead in half at 4-2, but the Threshers picked up a run in the fifth on a RBI-single from Clay Harris that scored Adrian Cardenas and two more in the seventh on a two run blast from Clay Harris to make things 7-2. The Rays tacked on one last run with two outs in the ninth, but the Threshers shut them down for the win with a 7-3 advantage in the end.

With a game finally in the wins column for the second half our boys need to pick up a couple more and grab some momentum before heading out on a four-game road trip beginning Thursday.

The SCHMIDT LIST award went to Clay Harris for his 3-4 night with a home run and five RBIs in the game.
