The Threshers had a six game week this past week with a day off on Monday; overall they went 3-3 in the week. They lost the final game of their series against the Vero Beach Devil Rays on Wednesday with Joe Savery taking the loss. After a Tursday night rain out they then split a double header to start a series with the St Lucie Mets. Drew Naylor pitched a complete game in the first game of the double header but took a 3-1 loss while Andrew Carpenter pitched a complete game in the second game by throwing a one-hit shut out in route to a 4-0 Threshers win.

BOX SCORE

The Clearwater Threshers picked up a nice win to open their series against the Lakeland Flying Tigers on Monday night. After being shutout in their last game, the Threshers continued their streak of following up shutout games with a victory by getting a win for the sixth time following a shutout. Starter Joe Savery went deep into the game giving up just two runs on four hits with six strikeouts and two walks for another solid outing, and he continues to improve his pitching steadily as the season moves on.

Michael Taylor who has struggled to get going in Clearwater since moving up from Lakewood had two hits in the game including a first inning grand slam that staked the Threshers to an early 4-0 lead. Unfortunately the Flying Tigers chipped away at that lead all game and eventually tied things by picking up three late runs in the eighth to tie it at 5-5 after the Threshers had picked up another run of their own in the seventh inning.

Undaunted the Threshers battled back and loaded the bases in the ninth inning eventually picking up a two-out RBI single from John Urick to secure the win.

Jesus Villegas who has been up and down with the Threshers this season had a terrific night defensively for the team, and chimed in with two hits and a run to help the offense as well. Quintin Berry picked up three hits on the night.

These two team face each other again on Wednesday night and then wrap up the series on Thursday. The Threshers game on Thursday night will be followed by a huge fireworks show, and a near sellout crowd is expected. Let’s hope our team can get a win and keep some momentum going.
