One night after blasting two home runs to get the Threshers a win in St. Lucie Dominic Brown did not take long to get started on Wednesday as he crushed a two-run shot to put the Threshers up 2-0 in the first inning. From that point it would be a pitchers dual for the next five-and-a-half innings.

The Threshers added just one more hit through the sixth, and the Miracle could not get a run off of the Threshers starte Carlos Monasterios who gave up just two hits in his five innings of work while striking out five.

Manny Ayala relieved Monasterios in the sixth, and the Miracle finally picked up their first run of the game on two hits, a walk and a sac bunt to make the game 2-1 in favor of the Threshers after six.

That is where the game would remain until the bottom of the eighth inning when Sam Walls made his 2009 debut fresh off of the DL. The first hitter he faced tapped a single, but Walls was able to get out of the inning with no damage and the Threshers still winning 2-1.

The offense would go down 1-2-3 in the top of the ninth, and Michael Schwimer came on trying to protect the slim lead and earn his fifth save of the year. Schwimer would grab two quick strikeouts to start things, and induced a ground ball for the third out giving the Clearwater Threshers a two-game winning streak.

Carlos Monasterios & Dominic Brown split the SCHMIDT LIST player of the game award.

The Clearwater Threshers had one final game with the Mets tonight, and sorely needed a win to avoid the four-game sweep. Darren Byrd was back on the hill in a starting role for the first time in 2009, and had a solid outing. Byrd went four innings (pretty standard for a first start) and gave up just one run on three hits.

Th offense certainly helped him out as Derrieck Mitchell got things started with a solo HR in the third to take the Threshers up 1-0. The Mets would answer with a run in the bottom of the third, but Dominic Brown got the first of his two HR in the fourth to send the Threshers up 2-1, and they never looked back.

The score remained 2-1 until the when Dominic Brown crushed his second HR scoring himself and Fidel Hernandez. Hernandez had an excellent night as well going 4-4 in the game.

The bullpen of Walter Tejeda, Josh Mackintosh, and Michael Schwimer took the game the rest of the way giving up just two hits and no runs over the final five frames.

Congrats on the win Threshers!

The team now heads to Ft. Myers, home of the upcoming FSL All-Star Game, for four games before heading home on Sunday for their first game in eight days.

Dominic Brown gets SCHMIDT LIST player of the game award for his 2 HR & 3-RBI effort.
