Rays Hold Threshers to One Hit

The Clearwater Threshers offense was stymied on Sunday as the Vero Beach Devil Rays held them to just one hit in the game and surrendered no walks. John Urick’s double in the second inning would prove to be the difference between a shut out and a perfect game for the Rays starter Jeremy Hellickson.

I was thinking when I set up today’s starting lineup before I left for the park how many great hitters we had in our lineup. Short of one change in the order of hitting (I had Urick ahead of Taylor) I had it predicted just right, except for the fact that I thought they would get some hits of course.

What else can I say? I’m baffled.

The SCHMIDT LIST award went to Andrew Carpenter the Threshers’ starting pitcher who gave up just two runs in eight innings of work, but with no offensive support he picked up a loss.
