One night after dominating the Threshers, Lakeland came out looking like they belonged in the instructional league as Fidel Hernandez lead off for the Threshers and reached on a fielding error, stole second, and reached third on a passed ball strike out that sent Freddy Galvis to first. Dominic Brown knocked a sac fly, and with what should have been three outs, the Threshers sent an unearned run across the plate for an early lead.

Unfortunately in the second inning the heebie jeebies got a hold of the Threshers as well. After on out, Lakeland got a runner on via a Threshers’ error, then starter Drew Naylor walked three consecutive batters to send the tying run across the plate and leave the bases loaded with just one out. A single put Lakeland on top before Naylor was able to get out of the inning with the Threshers now down 2-1.

After two innings Drew Naylor was lifted for his battery mate and close friend Chance Chapman. Chapman looked good in the early going striking out three Lakeland hitters in his first three innings giving up no hits. The Threshers offense meanwhile did nothing as they remained hitless through the first five frames.

Finally in the sixth inning the Threshers offense began to wake up as the Flying Tigers replaced their starting pitcher. Freddy Galvis walked to start the frame, and then Dominic Brown picked up his first home run of the year to drive in two and take a 3-1 lead. Tim Kennelly singled, and stole second, then advanced to third on a Michael Durant single and scored on a Yonderman Rodriguez single to put the team up 4-2 with four hits in the inning.

Meanwhile Chapman remained strong on the hill getting the Threshers out of the sixth giving up no hits and picking up his fourth K of the game.

Not finished yet, the Threshers offense kept things going in the seventh inning adding two more runs. Freddy Galvis singled, and Dominic Brown singled to leave men at first and third. Brown then stole second base, but the throw from the Flying Tigers catcher was errant allowing Galvis to score from third, and Brown came all the way home on the play to put the team up 6-2 before their opponents were able to get out of the inning.

In the eighth inning the Flying Tigers managed a solo blast off of Threshers reliver Chris Kissock, but Clearwater picked a run up of their own in the ninth on Tim Kennelly’s sixth double of the year (to move him into 1st place tie in the league for doubles) driving in Freddy Galvis who scored his third run of the game on two hits and a walk.

Jared Simon came on in the bottom of the ninth to get his team best fourth save of the year, and the Threshers went home winners despite a late Lakeland Rally to make things interesting. The team improved their record to 8-5 and moved back into a tie for first place in their division after spending just one day this year out of first place.

Dominic Brown earned the SCHMIDT LIST player of the game award as he accounted for four of the Threshers seven runs by driving in three and scoring two. A big shout out to Freddy Galvis who stole two bases and scored three times, and to Chance Chapman for shutting the Flying Tigers down through his four innings of work giving up no hits and striking out four.
