The Clearwater Threshers headed to the East coast on Thursday night looking for a little redemption after dropping four of six to the east coast teams at home. Unfortunately they fell into an early hole with the Cubs pitcher Dan McDaniel holding them to just one hit through the first five innings.

Meanwhile the Cubs offense picked up three runs on the Threshers starter Carlos Monasterios in just 3.2 innings bringing Dan Brauer in from the bullpen in the fourth after Monasterios took a line drive off of his ankle in the inning.

The Cubs would pick up a run in the fifth off of Brauer to go up 4-0 before the Threshers were ever able to get anything going.

Finally in the seventh inning Mike Durant got a 2-run homer to score himself and Cody Overbeck to cut the Threshers deficit in half at 4-2. The Cubs however picked up an unearned run off of reliever Zack Sterner in the bottom of the inning on two hits to go up 5-2 after seven innings of work.

That is how the game would end with the Threshers dropping the first game of their road trip, and their fifth consecutive game to fall into a tie with Daytona for second in the division. The teams are seven games back of the red-hot Brevard County Manatees who have won seven of eight to take control of the FSL Northern Division.

Mike Durant earned the SCHMIDT LIST player of the game award with a HR to account for the team’s only two runs of the game.
