The Clearwater Threshers took on the Brevard County Manatees in the only FSL game on Mother’s day looking to make of some ground as they trailed the Manatees by seven games in the North Division standings.
It did not take long for the Threshers to get things going as Cody Overbeck crushed a first-inning grand slam to put the team up 4-0 early. The team added 2 more runs in the second inning thanks to a two-rbi single from TIme Kennelly.
The Manatees cut into the Threshers lead in the third inning picking up three runs of their own, but in the fourth the Threshers got two runs back on a Javis Diaz two-run blast that put the Threshers back up by five runs with an 8-3 score.
The Manatees weren’t quite ready to roll over and play dead however, as they picked up three more runs in the bottom of the sixth inning. Yohan Flande began the inning great with two Ks, but followed the Ks with two walks, and a round tripper to make the game interesting once again at 8-6.
Michael Schwimer picks up the SCHMIDT LIST player of the game award for shutting down the Manatees over the final three frames to secure a Threshers 8-6 victory.
